So, there's a thread discussing whether the mods are competent, and it get's locked by a mod. For real.

So, there's an entirely circular discussion which kept coming back to the same boring point, and it gets locked by a mod. For real.

if you dont like the discussion then dont involve yourself fyndir? leave the rest of us to our circular discussion. you clearly dont take onboard anything that anyone tries to say/suggest.
a more apt title for this thread i fell would have been
'Mod throws toys out of pram after getting savaged again - Discuss'

If a discussion is circular then it is, by definition, entirely pointless.
I take things on board when they're things that are worth taking on board, you guys whining about me merging a couple of threads is quite clearly NOT worth taking on board. Deal with it.
If I was throwing toys out of prams then both that topic and this topic would be gone, entirely deleted. All I did was end the discussion before it came full circle for the third or fourth time. =/

im all for you merging threads/posts and general forum-tidying...just not the attutide. people obviously have a problem with something (regardless of whether or not its a valid problem.. tbh i think Hex talks a lot of shite and Yega's hardware thread was exactly that - Yega's.) but if people want to discuss, i think you should let them discuss.
dont make a final post telling people essentially 'youre wrong, tough luck' and then lock it so noone can reply, otherwise you'll end up with 5 new thread a day about the same thing.

just not the attutide.
Then the problem is not, and never will be, with the moderation itself.
Your problem is solely with me, my personality.
I treat people harshly a lot, I swear a lot, a yell a lot.
Most of it is stress relief, some of it is simply me being me.
If that's not the kind of person you want to moderate these forums then that's fine, you already know fine well how to get rid of me, what I object to is the stupidity of telling me that I shouldn't be merging threads and similar.

Im with sideshow on this one; I had a good lol when I saw this yesterday.

A little uni society doesn't need moderation AT ALL. That said, there are plenty of times when there are horrible flare ups, not the least of which caused by virulent troll attacks. Generally someone with a bit of sense can defuse the situation without destroying threads.
An act of compromise would be to create a special forum section called 'hell' where those intentionally disruptive posts could be moved, but *not* edited.
Would probably turn into the most popular section of the forums... :s

Sounds like an awesome plan.

I'd like a mini-FYAD. (-:<

yes, a mini-FYAD would rock... although we might need to lock it in a box to keep it from spilling out. :P

My problem isn't solely with you and your rubbish attitude Fyndir, but also about your style of moderating which I have explained in the other thread. Not the first time you've locked a thread because you were getting a bit hot under the collar.
Toys out the pram (http://www.pausegaming.com/forum/showthread.php?t=951&page=2&highlight=nazi+mod)
I lend my voice to Iain's point, the locking of that mod thread was utter nonsense, you totally shot yourself in the foot and you have an inability to admit in any way you may be wrong. That is a persoanlity trait you might wanna look into (along with having a major bitch at people to make yourself feel better)
tbh i think Hex talks a lot of shite
<3 you too man ^^
Seriously though, I'm not gonna weigh in with personal insults. I will go so far as to say I disagree with Fyndir's attitude, and I've made it very clear in the other thread what I think of his moderation style. Tbh, I know I can be a bit of a forum-whore, jumping in with my 2 cents worth on any thread that I happen to be reading, and yeah maybe that bugs some people (e.g. Yega and his hardware thread). Nonetheless, I feel that any such disputes can be handled just fine w/o mods intervening arbitrarily. Still, I feel everyone has a point Fyndir - if you didn't like the "circular discussion" why not just stop reading it? I mean I would have agreed with you locking the thread if it had gotten insulting or offensive, but really it was all pretty well conducted - you just locked it cos you didn't like what people were saying.
This is starting to get personal. If you've got a problem with one of the mods, then refer it higher -- PM bluepixie.

Tbh Dave this is exactly the situation I was trying to avoid - rather than going over people's heads and making formal complaints, the idea of starting a thread on forum moderation was to get the general consensus and try and solve the problems. Granted it doesn't seem to have worked, but I really was hoping to avoid the course of action you're suggesting.

I want you all to understand something about me.
When I moderate these forums it isn't because I enjoy the power, and it isn't because I get some thrill from it, it's because I feel that it was my duty as OCM to do so, I feel obligated to check the forums and try to keep them running smoothly.
Clearly I have failed to do so.
The discussion then becomes a question, what do you do with an elected power who fails?
You remove their power, of course.
So following on from this I have asked the ever-sexy Mr. Sid to remove my op status on the IRC room (three or so of you might notice that next time you're in) and to remove my moderator status on the forums.
All I ever tried to do was what I believed was correct for the society, if I came off as being an asshole then it was probably because I am, that's why I'm the troll and you're all human, remember?
Before I had said that I would only run for a position if no-one else ran for it, my reasoning being that not to do so would be to risk ending Pausegaming. However given how badly my judgment seems to have failed me in regards to doing things for the good of Pausegaming previously I no longer stand by that.
I will not stand for a committee position, regardless of who else does or does not stand. If there is an empty position then I urge one of you to fill it, because I shall not do so.
See you at the next LAN, hopefully you'll be able to understand that I truly did what I believed was right and won't hate me for me.

well yes. if there is a next lan
well yes. if there is a next lan
Of course there will be a next LAN, the society has gone from strength to strength during this year, I don't see it all falling apart now, and I for one will try to ensure it doesn't!

I'd like to hope so, but you have to understand that there has been a not insignificant amount of angst present lately.
Not to mention nobody putting themselves forward for the committee positions for next year! The ACM is just around the corner: people should be discussing it, and forming ideas for the future of the club!

On that note, I've started a relevant thread here (http://www.pausegaming.com/forum/showthread.php?p=14528#post14528).

Hey Jan, which sources say the meeting is just around the corner cos as far as us non comittee members are concerned it's not even being planned.

Obviously there's gonna be another LAN.
I've E-Mailed the Gary dude about having some QM time in the near future. He's yet to get back to me, will probably have to send him another one soon.
Will try and get the AGM organised ASAP, but since Pixie's memory stick went missing I'm sure he's been pretty busy.
Keep the faith guys.
RE: Fyndir resigning as mod.
Don't be too hard on yourself, Fyndir, I think you've done a good job considering the circumstances. Frankly, it's got a bit heated in here as of late, and I think someone needed to mod. I'm just sorry it's caused you to resign.
On the plus side, you're the best OCM we've ever had. Don't worry about causing the club to go down, there's been a gaming club at the university ever since there was computers, there will be one long after we're all gone.

In 1957 the University of Glasgow entered the history books as the first university in Scotland to have an electronic computer.
