Games we have and would like to play at the LAN.

We really need a more formal way working out who has what game with spreadsheets / databases. It would be so much better than posting and guessing what everyone will bring.

Post the games you want to play below:

Dawn of War
Dawn of War: Winter Assault
Starcraft (if I can get it working.)
Starcraft: Brood Wars (If I can get it working.)
BattleField2 (I own the full version, so I'm guessing I'd be able to join a game with someone running the demo.)

I dunno what else, I'm just gonna put every game I own in my bag and hopefully I'll have enough to join in the majority of the games.

I do believe we'll have to have one on one DoW:WA matches just for shits and giggles anytime we're not playing another game with everyone else, since the rest of them seem to be stuck with regular DoW and I do enjoy spamming the hell out of people with fucking hordes of Guardsmen running around being mostly useless. =D

I will try to sort something out with a friend of mine who also has winter assault. He's good enough to take on the new improved Hard AI for winter assault so be prepared to face tough opposition.

I'm up for some racing games this time (i'll bring my wheel) I've been meaning to try them for a long while. And vc2 demo might be fun.

Has anyone tried NFSU:2. It's racing, but more arcade racing (unlike some racing sims :)

I'm NOT doing a timetable for a CS 1.6 Tournament.

Reason?

This a LAN, not a competition. If there are group(s) that want to play competitively they should arrange another date specifically. At the end of the day, what Dave says goes, but I believe that a tournament will disrupt the LAN. I’m all up for arranging a more serious gathering but I think this should be organised properly with prizes etc. No point going halfway house.

Im sorry man, it just got by back up there. :(

It's just that it will take up too much time and cause the LAN group to break off into "groups". Much more fun to have everyone playing the same game, gets a better atmosphere. Bring on the BF2! :D And 00:00 games of AvP2. Phizz, you're mine.

I want to make something very clear: I'm doing this for the fun of LAN-ing, not because I like organising things. Yes, I did set this up, but this is my last year and I want to make GUNS last way beyond my time here. In that respect it's not my club, it's our club. I'm not running a dictatorship, I've tried to listen to the club as a whole, encourage members to speak out and improve things. I think it's only by doing this that the club will get better and hopefully last into the future.

The competition is a good idea, but as bluepixie says, we've got limited time and a massive CS comp would (I think) suck up too much of that. We're probably going to end up playing CS for about 2 hours each day, given the previous lans average, so using some of that time would probably be a good move.

What I'm suggesting is we ask the people at the LAN what they want to do: a big CS game or a competition for one of the slots. If you're up for organising it, then go for it. Even if there's just 6 of us, I still think it will be fun. But as one of the people organising the lan, I think we have to try and maximise the fun for everyone. It's a hard balance to strike sometimes.

So: start small. Organise a small competition at the November LAN and work it from there. If there's demand, it'll show. That's my suggestion anyway, Bluepixie & Exuus have as much say in this as part of the committee. I'm sure a lot of people will try anything once. If they like it, it's yours to run with.

Bluepixie

The whole hacking thing confuses me, so I just go with guns and stuff and shoot people, I got quite decent at it.

However today something's not quite right with my little machine, it crashes when running HL2 / Source engine based stuff and eventually errors when running HL1 / CS engine based stuff. =/

I'm currently blaming the graphics card, it might be the RAM though.

In other news: I discovered that I seem to have 2 spare RAM slots, given that I currently have 2 in use with 512 in each this is good, so I might have to see about possibly upgrading to 2GB of RAM at some point.

It looks like I won't be able to play anything on the Source engine at the LAN, I've tried everything I can think of and anytime I try to run a Source engine based game my computer restarts.

I'm guessing it's either a problem with my RAM or it's just overheating and turning off.

I'm gonna see if I can nab a 1GB RAM stick to replace one of my 512s in time for the LAN incase that fixes it, but I make no promises.

I think you'd be better removing the CS tournament from the Saturday daytime activities. I'm keen to play whatever the main game throughout the prime-time Saturday afternoon rather than the CS tournament.

I'd provisionally scheduled 2 matches each at 8, 9 and 10pm on the Saturday evening. How about moving UT2004 up to 7pm (an hour for dinner is sufficient - most people sit eating&playing at their computer anyway). Then UT2004 can be played for a few hours if people wish, while a few people might dissapear for the tournament after 8pm.

Well my browser logs me in automatically for simplicity, so I don't have to know.

Also I don't know if it's physically possible to make a post and delete it before I've seen it and replied if I'm online and not playing a game when you make the post. =P
