That was rather unexpected.

It really was. Who would have thought it that a major game would launch so quietly. I expect there will be a blaze of publicity in the next 2 weeks.

I only hope certain companies ati catch on to this way of releasing products. That's what made me switch from ati to nvidia, the cards just weren't out dispite me reading the specs in teh magazines and fora online for the past year-and-a-half.

That, and the 6800LE's unlock very nicely.

You guys seen any clips of the multiplayer? Looks great! Q3, but better graphics. Will find a link in a min.

Hmm, game seems to think there is a special edition:

Special Edition includes:
* Quake II
* The "Reckoning" and "Ground Zero" Quake II Expansion Packs
* "Making Of" Feature
For £50, that's a Really shit special edition (http://shop.game.net/ViewProduct.aspx?cat=11142&mid=327399)
Compared to the normal price of £26 anyway (http://shop.game.net/ViewProduct.aspx?cat=11142&mid=326348)

Can you say "price gouging"? Oh, I did.

Well compared to the special editions of HL2 this is a joke.

Simple bog standard loser version for me I think :wink:

Does nobody think that Quake 4 might be a bit.... arse?

I mean, years of build up (it's been listed on Amazon since 2002 or some such) and then no fanfare, no previews, bugger all really in the gaming press, no leaked code, no demos and a fairly no descript release date (why not hold out another month for the Christmas rush?). Perhaps I'm being to cautious but I'm going to wait for the reviews to start appearing.

Nope I dont think it will be "arse" at all.

As far as I am concerned, I would just like it to be a beautiful version of Quake III.

And from what I have heard, its exactly that. So Im smiling like the grinch :)

As you may have seen at the LAN, I've been playing it a little. It's actually pretty good. Basicly, it's Q2 but with better atmosphere and a more more cinematic feel to it. Definately not a ground breaker, but fun none the less. Not sure about the multiplayer yet however, haven't actually played anyone at it so I shall reserve my judgement for now. Anyone else got it, playing it?

I had my reservations but on thursday 2-3 hours of my life were sucked away in the usual fashion by a good game. It's a no brainer shooter on rails but they are damn fine rails. And it looks and feels good.

I really enjoyed playing it.. just a good no frills FPS. But I doubt its going to make any significant impact multiplayer. Well apart from CPL and places like that.

Edit: Regardless of what I said, I still wouldnt mind a wee game of it at the LAN when things are quiet.

I'll hold you to that. :twisted:
