View Full Version : orange box purchase - tax question

I was thinking of getting the orange box and was going to pay for it through steam/paypal to get it direct by download, but unusually for me I read the license agreement where it went on about the legal migubbins - which reminded me about import duties blah blah blah. Then I thought, hey they dont actually send you anything through the post do they? Do they? I just want to download the game over the net (which, by the way, is probably a lot more environmentally friendly:biggrin:)

Anyone experienced this purchase route? Any dilemmas? If it came to it I suppose I could just ignore the parcel lying at the post office waiting for me to pay a customs admin charge and import duty... :)

yeah I bought the orange box through steam - £25 paid with paypal - no parcels or import tax

you're the joke!

;)

Seriously, they might for some reason have sent discs or manuals or just some small token papery migubbins... if someone has a question why not think, "Hey some people might not know the answer to this question," instead of randomly insulting and pissing people off, albeit unintentionally. I originally got HL2 through steam/paypal and at that time they did not send anything out. A few months ago the customs and excise people really started tightening up on all sorts of import duty / tax regulations which you can read about here (http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/channelsPortalWebApp.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=pageImport_ShowContent&id=HMCE_CL_001454&propertyType=document)

...so I just thought I'd check with people here since some of yooz guys would have already purchased with that method. So there. :p

they add VAT to your purchase - check your paypal bill once you've ordered.

oh and it probably wouldn't be considered an import since the content servers are in the UK.

interesting...
with the estimated tax added, it makes it roughly £28 to purchase through steam/paypal. You can get it delivered free from play.com for £26.99. It's only a pound or so I know, but it's good to clarify the options. You also get a disc from play which may be used as an interesting beer mat ;)

cheers!
