I really enjoyed WiC at the last LAN, but like many of the rest of you I'm still somewhat clueless with certain aspects of the game. So I figured I'd make a thread where we can all ask questions and get answers from those who own the game (Lewis, others?).
The bit I don't really get is the support points - how do you actually gain more? They seem to increase periodically but I don't really understand what gets you more support points...or for that matter what gets you more points to deploy reinforcements!

In 1up your deploy points are fixed: when your units die you (over some amount of time) get their value back.

Time gives you support points, that is all to my knowledge, the other points (for reinforcements) are dependant on the strategic points you hold on the map.
tbh what I liked was the whole thing was very simple to pick up and play. Will be interesting to see if you can get satisfying strategic battles working. Helo pairing worked well, one covering anti air the other anti ground other combos are bound to be effective but are hugely dependant on number of players.

you get TA points (the ones on the top left) for killing things and repairing things and taking objectives, generally playing the game basically.
the reinforcements points (top right) are just time based - the closer you get to your limit, the slower they increase.
now, my question - how do you fortify points? what do you have to do? say for example a point with 2 green/white circles - how many units do you need to get 3 emplacements round each point and how does it work?

I think you can only fortify points with infantry, I haven't actually ever done it, maybe just press a key to fortify?

In 1up you need 2 units (any type) in the circle for some amount of time to cap it.

You start with 4000 reinforcement points and 2000 more tick in after that => max of 6000. The speed they come in depends on how many you have left. If you have lots they come in quickly but the last few hundred will be really slow. As your units die the points you spent on them will go back into your pool.
Reinforcements deploy to your chosen drop zone which you can move via the button in the reinforcements menu. I think it takes 30sec for them to arrive and then there is another 30sec delay before you can order more, so make sure you order everything you want at the first drop. Also, it is a good idea to co-ordinate with you allies to all drop at the same time so you can't be picked off.
Support points are obtained by destroying enemy units and capturing/fortifying strategic points. If you call in an artillary strike and hit enemy units with it you get some support points back, so it's a good idea to practice making hits on moving units.
You fortify points by first capturing them (having at least one unit in each linked circle) and then leaving units there. You don't need to keep units in all the points after capture only the one(s) you want to fortify. The more units you have in the points the quicker the fortifications go up. They build in the order; Machine gun, AT, AA. Although be wary (see 1 below). N.B. Choppers can't capture or fortify.
General tactics:
1. Keep mobile! A unit sitting in the open is a massive "drop artillary here" marker.
2. If you're playing infantary, buildings and trees are your friends. You take less damage while in them and tanks can't crush you.
3. If you're playing any of the other classes, buildings and trees are you worst enemy. Napalm and bunker busters are a very good counter.
4. Each of your units is quite specialised so use it to its advntage. Don't attack standard infatary squads with choppers, they have AA missiles. Light tanks are fuck all use against heavy tanks unless you outnumber them 4:1. Heavy artillary is defenceless at close range so run away. Etc.
5.Pay attention to the support markers!!! If you see a little artillary piece hovering over a circle with a countdown next to it, don't run your tanks into it or one of your allies is going to slap you.
6. If 2 out of 5 players are armour commanders don't select armour as well, you need a combined arms force to win. If you're uncomfitable with playing one of the classes (you really should practice with them all) then ask one of your allies if they can play as something else.
Finally but most importantly;
7. Work together. Choppers pwn tanks so you'll need a support guy to back up your attack, etc (see 4). The 'c' key lets you talk to your allies. Call out where the enemy is attacking most heavily, tell you allies you need support and inform them if you're being pushed back. The built in voice comms in WiC are actually quite good so there's no excuse for not using them.
Hope that helps you all out. If anyone has any more questions/wants anything clarified then I'm quite happy to pass on what knowleadge I have.

Cheers Lewis, that's cleared up most of my issues.

Staying mobile is the best advice.
Everything else just fits into play quite naturally. You will know when you're doing well due to your support points mounting up.
Also don't be afraid to lose units, since it's a combined team game.. there's not too much onus on unit survival. You'll get more support points by being agressive/active/daring with what you have. And in the end you should be reinforcing whenever you can.
I was a bit timid with my support point usage at first, but when I started flinging them into the enemy's face I found I was never really long without them.

It can be great to build up enough points for a double carpet bombing and then throw units away "accidentally" to encourage the enemy forward and straight into complete devestation so your team can push up while you wait for reinforcements.
Also it's important to learn and try to remember the special attacks for different units, especially how they relate to what you're fighting.
Amphibious Transport has Incendiary Rounds as a special, whereas the very similar Armoured Transport has anti-vehicle rockets, so if you mix the two together as part of your Armoured force (aswell as tanks, of course) you can deal with just about any ground units.
Another option is just to spam one unit and rely on your team for backup, for example wait and throw four Heavy Tanks in at once then rely on your teammates to provide anti-air and anti-infantry since you have anti-vehicle pretty well sorted out.
On the water map we played I tried to spam the Amphibious transports (since lots of infantry would have been around and they can float along to the next island anyway) but got fucked in the ass by helicopters at our spawn island, which was entirely fair since we should have waited and grouped instead of just rolling out one player at a time effectively. =P

Also worth pointing out is that as well as using voice comms, you can hold down the Q key, and select from a list of quick commands, Battlefield Style. If you ask for something (e.g. Anti-Air support), a yellow marker will appear on the screen at that location for others to see. Clicking on a yellow marker indicates that you are responding to it.
I played a fair bit during the Betas, but hadn't played any multiplayer between then and the last LAN, so I'm still a little noobish. I second Fyndir's advice about learning the special abilities. They are bound to the E (offensive) and R(defensive) keys, so you can use them quickly. A good example is the Medium choppers, they have a great anti-air missile, and if have a group of them, you can hold down the E key, and click once for each missile. I like to use two against enemy helicopters, so if I have 6 choppers, I hold down the E key, and click twice on each enemy helicopter, and two missiles (almost enough to destroy them) hit each one.

I found that the person playing support will generally be in the background and not be directly attacking the enemy heads-on, therefor they have more time to plan any pwnage with nukes, etc.
When you play as Air, NEVER think you can just destroy AA, no matter if they're light or heavy, they will rape you.
Instead, use either artillery or call their position out to your allies.
It's a team game, so focus on the role you play as, support provides repair, AA and long range artillery, infantry provides good defense if playing in an urban enviroment, helicopters are brilliant for quick strike missions, tanks are overall good units for most tasks.
Learn what your units special attacks are, they will help immensely.
All ground units can take control points, leave them in the circle bits and the point automatically gets defended.
Another good idea is to play the single player campaign, it will teach you a lot of good strategies that you can use later.
If you're on the offensive, never slow the attack, keep sending units at the enemy, most likely ur units won't survive but it will give you vital seconds to send that huge doomsday army you've been building up.
Remember to tell allies where help is needed and look at the map often to see where help is needed.
