View Full Version : Audiosurf: Ride Your Music
Strings

A few months ago I was browsing the new entries for IGF (Independent Games Festival) and was tabbing all the ones that seemed to have the most potential/enjoyment for me.
Audiosurf was one of them. It's a game that's a tad tricky to describe... so I'll let the devs do it for me.
Audiosurf allows you to experience the intensity and emotion of your songs in real time, in full color, and in 3D. Songs that give you an adrenaline rush are converted into wild roller coaster rides full of color and motion. Songs that calm you down appear as cool colors against a relaxing sky. Audiosurf enhances the experience of your music collection by synchronizing its environment to the events in your songs--the beats, the intense sections, the long pauses followed by a burst of sound, all take on a more vivid meaning.
In Audiosurf, you race down a futuristic and colorful highway. The highway, the traffic patterns, and the scenery are all synchronized to the music you have chosen from your own collection. You earn points for clustering together cars of the same color on the highway, and can compete with others on the internet for the high score on your favorite songs. Audiosurf builds a highway for any music CD, MP3, iTunes M4A, WMA, or OGG song you choose, so the experience that you have is totally up to you.
And here are some token screenshots:

That screeny reminds me of Amplitude or FreQuency, which btw are excellent music games. If you havnt played either, pick up Amplitude for PS2. You wont regret it.
see for yourself..

Pre-orders on Steam (http://www.2404.org/news/2872/Audiosurf-Pre-Orders-Available-on-Steam)
I wanted to give this a try but missed the testing window. :( Worth buying you think?

I just pre-ordered it, mostly because it was about $10 (after taxes), and included the Orange Box sound track. The game itself looks good enough, but the soundtrack was well worth it for that price.

Orange Box soundtrack you say? As an mp3 download? I'd want some guarantees that I wasn't getting given 128kbps mp3s for my money...

Yeah, but on the other hand, I'm only paying a fiver for the package as a whole, with what's reputed to be a fairly good game. If they aren't the best, well, I can always rip them off Niall's Orange Box CD.

Niall, where did you obtain such things? (I assume this is referring to a CD soundtrack?)

Try playing it with either some Post Rock stuff, or dubstep. Vex'd's Pop Pop VIP was rather epic. Two player character is good fun as well.

And you've played it, how? The game is still pre-load only on Steam and the demo isn't released until tomorrow.

There was a demo out before, which was posted on the forums. I played it with some speedcore, which was fun.

There was a Beta weekend a while back, also a crack was released to let you play the beta weekend edition after the beta weekend had ended. Also Ches is totally on the money, dubstep works well with this game :D

OMG!
Death Becomes You - Sunn O))
It's an endless hell bent fiery decent into the centre of the earth. Wow. Through the fire and flames can kiss my ass. I thought at first that Audiosurf was going to crash while compiling it!

Not as insane as Shitmat or, now sadly defunct, drone gods The Angelic Process (http://www.theangelicprocess.com/).
