Allright, sorry bout the wooly nature of this
But does anyone remember an old DOS based flight sim shoot em up, 2D and you move your craft across blowing the crap out of everything.
Other items of note is that the plane it was a F-15 style jet with VTOL in the end of mission cutscenes. along with the mission screen being mercenaries based and being able to buy sheilds and weapons...
I can see the images in my mind by i cant find it online!

It sounds to me like an old shareware gem called "Raptor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raptor:_Call_of_the_Shadows)", but to be honest, the description's so vague that you could apply it to any number of games from the time.

Greasel - if you are a fan of 2D shmups I'd highly recommend you invest in a Sega Saturn, chip it, and either import or otherwise obtain titles like Sokyugurentai, Dodonpachi and Radiant Silvergun. The Saturn plays host to some of the finest shmups ever.
