I can only assume he's asking for Date of Birth in order to assess people's age, but I'm not giving him my real name and my date of birth...he'd be better off asking for year of birth or just age. I filled in the survey apart from that.

Yeah, I used a fake name too. How the hell is it "anonymous" if they ask for your name?!? lulz

I just gave my first name, he never asked for a full one.

Nice of them not to list Pause as one of the major Scottish LANs.

What do we do again?

I wouldn't put pause in a survey going out to all of scotland.
Its just a guy doing some research and generating a bit of interest. The thread brings up some good points, most of them relevant to pause yet all that comes out of here is analtastic comments about putting down real names or not, seriously...

Why, because it's Glasgow-based? Surely you can say the same for ESC? Pause is one of the more regular LAN societies, as far as I know.

Pause are incredibly insular - the majority of people in Scotland might not even know about us, nevermind have attended one of our LANs, members of pause are rarely seen at other events, and our attendance levels are probably lower than the other LANs listed. So in that sense then no, we're probably not one of the major scottish LANs.
I think however we're one of the demograhpics they're trying to reach - avid gamers who don't attend other, bigger LANs for whatever reasons, so please folks if you have a spare 2 minutes, contribute more than 'lol they asked for my name and d.o.b.', even if you dont plan on attending other LANs it can't hurt to tell them why.

I lol'd at analtastic
Seriously though, surely you can see why people would have an issue with providing someone their full name and full DoB?
Hopefully the guy will be reading this thread (if one of you knows he isn't, feel free to post my comments into the thread on the other forum, cba signing up for an account to make one post).
Number 1 reason why I attend Pause and not other LANs like Gump - Pause costs £5 and is round the corner, Gump costs about five times that plus a good wack of petrol. I'm fairly sure I'm not the only person here who attends Pause rather than other LANs cos it's wayyyy cheaper.
People also sometimes ask why a lot of us attend Pause LANs but don't attend any other LAN events. My reasoning there would be that a LAN once a month is enough LANing for me. Gotta keep some free time for drinking and suchlike ;-)

The cost issue and the value for money aspect have been raised in the esc-games thread, I've asked Higgy to update the survey with your details, he compiled it with lans he knew about (Why he included the i-series in the scottish LAN listings I'll never know :P). Now you already know that pause isn't well known about, something we could all work on to remedy.
If your not comfortable for any reason with giving up your name and dob to higgys massive identity theft survey for scottish gamers I can ask him to make that an optional question.
I think the results will be an interesting read there has already been some excellent points about peoples expectations on Scottish LAN gaming events.
