although not officialy GUNS equipment. You also have at your disposal (and to be tested for the first time this weekend) my server.

1.2Ghz Athlon
512MB

For running dedicated server games and VoIP.

Currently all steam account games, Battlefield 2, all iD engine games (Q1,Q2,Q3,Q4,JK:JA,D3), AvP2, IL2, Live for Speed, Halo Trial, UT:GOTY + Infiltration, UT2004, Veitcong1,2(Demo). Are working.

You'll note the lack of RTS games. I only have Dawn of War and I think the server will be out of disk space when I install all of the above.

Hell once this bucket of bolts give up you can have it Dave for running RTS. Problem solved. :-D

Ok, I'll re-ask my question that I never got an answer to in the previous incarnation of this thread (since you seemed to agree with me that it wasn't post whoring):

Lots of hardware is good and excites me, but why don't we use the games server?

Probably something everyone else knows and I don't. =(

Basically, it comes down to a lack of time on my part. I just don't have enough time to admin a games server in the downtime between lans.

Also, it's a bit underpowered for a games server. It's still running PC133 memory, and only has 256 meg of that.

Saying that, YegaDoyai did a fantastic job running his games server. It really made a good lan great :) Thanks again, Peter!

Admining it could be shared between trusted members, might be good for some online 1.6 and CS:S.

It could be upgraded to 1.6 server capabilities easily / cheaply enough, maybe start putting a chunk of GunSoc income towards a little fund for that and consider accepting spare parts and such?

I agree fully, Doyai's servers were well run and a good laugh overall, we got plenty of gaming out of it. =)

the only reason that machine of mine is not being donated to guns directly is that we quite like it being in the flat when not at a lan. If there should come a time when I am NOT at a lan i'd still see the server making it to deal out the lovely servering of gamesness so don't worry about guns not having thier own server for about a year.
