RPS covered this here (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/05/20/aliens-vs-predator-resurrection/)

Being developed by the original developers Rebellion, both a blessing and curse due to most titles they did post AvP being shit. ;/

A short trailer and some screenshots are all we get for now but the sound of that motion detector and Predator teeth chattering sent shivers down my spine. Can they do it again, but prettier? Fingers-crossed.

I seem to remember the original AvP being good, but that the Monolith developed AvP2 was so much better, at least as far as the single-player campaigns went. Hope their single-player game has moved on significantly since then.

The only problem with the first game was the glitchy engine. It looked great and played great but occasionally you'd get stuck in a wall or something equally retarded. This is an all console event so I expect that the game will be simple and hopefully they don't fuck up the multiplayer.

The article says it's coming out on PC as well.

Yes, I meant all consoles + PC. ie it is being developed for all platforms and therefore might be poo because we all know FPS PC is >>> FPS on console.

Completely shocking! Who would've thought that a game like Aliens vs. Predator would be banned in Australia? I mean seriously. "Sega Australia can today confirm that the initial submission of Aliens vs Predator has been refused classification by the Classification Operations Board of Australia. We will continue to investigate all options available to us, including the possibility of appeal," the company revealed Gspot.

The in-game violence of Aliens vs. Predator was evidently the reason behind the refusal. The classification board stated: "The game contains first-person perspective, close-up depictions of human characters being subjected to various types of violence, including explicit decapitation and dismemberment as well as locational damage such as stabbing through the chest, mouth, throat, or eyes."

Wait, there's more: "It is noted that a player is able to combine manoeuvres together in quick succession, which further increases impact; for example, a Predator can stab a character through both eyes with its wrist blade and rip off their head, with spinal column still attached. Extensive post-mortem damage, including decapitation and dismemberment, is also possible."

Man this games sounds totally awesome

Just fantastic. I will look forward to playing this at the next lan.

I just can't seem to get a hang of the predator. I'm continually getting pwned by aliens and marines when I play it - must be missing something obvious.

Ah, how I've missed the gentile "ping" of the scope, and the biting attacks. ;)

Are you using your stealth and vision modes? Got the jumps down? Know what all the weapons do? Never use heavy melee attack as Pred - it's too slow, also blocking seemed key.

Quick question: AVP is on Amazon for £17 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B002BA52KA/) instead of steam for 25. Anyone know if I can import this into steam? (i.e. put the serial into steam and have it in steam games)

Thanks for the info. Bought it on Steam, purely because it's less hastle, and I won't have to wait for it to be delivered. Fricin' postie ;)

Blimey, my steam folder is 50 gig. Do they sell hard drives on steam?

Mine is 127 GB and worth £550. That is since 2006 though.

I suspect my CD collection is worth considerably more.

I've worked out my collection to be worth about £3000. Might not be accurate any more though. That's a bit scary. :s

AvP has been released.

/me tries to install.
/me finds out that 15 gig is required on hdd. 10 gig free.
/me randomly deletes some other crappy games to make room for steam.

Well done, Gabe, you've won. ;)

Single player marine campaign is good so far. Lighting is suitably "what's that in that dark corner", gameplay is formulaic and voice acting is sub par. However it has aliens that want to rip your face off and you get a smart gun so it balances out.

Phizz
19th February 2010, 15:19
I hate HATE the Smart Gun in Multiplayer. Let's hope they capped it to one per marine team. :-?

I just finished playing some Predator Hunt and some Infestation mode multi-player. Fucking awesome fun IF you manage to get into a game that's not massively laggy. Fucking hurry up with the dedi server support.

Edit: Calling it now: they'll never release the dedi server stuff.

saladin

So is there truth to what I heard about the multiplayer, namely that it quickly dissolves into giant conga lines of aliens and predators queuing to do canned animation instakills on each other?

In the deathmatch mode perhaps, but not in the interesting ones (predator hunt etc).

Thanks for the fix, seems to have done the trick!

It's also had it's 2nd (http://www.bluesnews.com/s/107894/aliens-vs-predator-patch9) patch and the open source dedicated server beta is oot too. Gunder and I had a look for dedicated servers this evening but none up yet or certainly not playable yet. Rubberbanding, teleporting Aliens and stuttery Predators ahoy.

I really do hope they sort it out soon, potential is high.

The game features a unique three-way online multiplayer experience, allowing gamers to battle for survival and the right to be crowned the deadliest species in the galaxy. This is fine when you play as the marine, who controls much like you'd expect in a first-person shooter.
