There's no visual confirmation for signing up to the forums currently. = bots ftw!

It should be in the main settings doo-da in the vbulletin admin area.

The quick signup bypasses vbulletin and recaptcha completely, so there is very little protection.

I always found though that most spambots failed on the email verification stage, which may be why muppet implemented this rather than VB's signup.

The quick signup is actually usually disabled. It gets enabled around freshers week to allow quick and easy signups, so when the people working the freshers stall manage to interest anyone, new users can signup in 5 seconds.

instead of 8 seconds? oh well :) I didnt realise it was deliberately done to convenience the freshers.

I wonder how many seconds it takes to remove all the spam messages and delete the bot accounts?

The bots don't come through that form anyway. Leave it open after Fresher's Week IMO.

The best solution in the future though, I think, would be to send clone the VB registration form and direct the user to that after they have filled out the quick signup fields.
