:(

I would recommend a dell keyboard (http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&sku=580-14197). Pretty basic, but like the terminator, they never seem to die.

Sorry Barney, go to PC World, play with the keyboards they have. Buy the one you like. I can't recommend a definitive keyboard because as the other keyboard thread indicates it is very personal. Case in point:

The logitech keyboards all round great boards with some of the best features however pixie and I really don't like the feel, sally does.

Thats fair, was jst hoping some one may know something of the roccat range.

hmmm, the cans only seem to go to 20Hz, even my older Siberias do 18Hz. Dunno if bass matters to you or not but I'd look elsewhere for cans. SteelSeries are great for gaming and Sennheiser are the daddy for music, Shures if you fancy in-ear.
The keyboard looks pretty good and reviews I've seen look +ve. If you feel the urge, I'd go for it. Turned out very well when I bought my Raptor. Worth every penny. :)

20Hz is the limit of human hearing. You probably can't even hear that low at our age.

I thought humans could resolve down to about 12-15 Hz? And isn't it more likely to be the high end of your hearing that goes with age? I haven't done this stuff since high school physics, but those numbers sound vaguely familiar.

Nah, 20 Hz is the limit, you can feel thing down to about 12 Hz through vibrations in the body but the ear can't detect them. You lose a bit from both ends as you age but the high end does tend to go first.

regarding keyboards, I had a shot of lots of nice keyboards over at kustom pcs incl the roccat one. I've decided I hate keyboards with rubber keys. The logitech g15 keys were a bit weirdly spaced and not "poppy" enough. Didnt like it. The MS glowy one was quite good (with detachable numeric keypad) and the buttons had the right amount of "pop" for my typing speed. But surprisingly, after testing them all, I found the Steelseries Merc was probably the one I'd go for over them all. The buttons felt right. The roccat I wasnt too impresed with and the razer things were all rubbery and I felt that my fingers were suffering drag when I went to lift-off for the next key. I tried some keypad things ( the WASD half-a-keyboard thingies) and found that the Saitek one at £24.99 was ok , the belkin one was better (and costlier) but the daddy and most comfortable of that type of thing was the logitech g13. For reference, I have size 8/medium hands. For FPSs or you can live with an additional "normal" keyboard for typing, I'd go for the g13.

I guess you have to decide if you want your fingers to stick to particular keys better (then go for rubber). Or if you want a full keyboard. Then consider noise levels, illumination, and key pop.

For me:
Best premium keyboard: Steelseries Merc (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_3050.html)
Best "Advanced gameboard": Logitech G13 (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_4754.html)

Note: I use a £3 basic logitech keyboard. The above cost far too much money :D

i kinda like the look of that g13, but i had a thing very like that and turned out to be a 5min wonder and a pain in the ass after that.

ATM im using a £5 logitech compact laptop style thingy (used it for like a year now) and tbh i love it however im looking for maybe softer quiter key strokes. I have grown a liking for compact keybaords rather than full or gaming keyboards, simply because of the deskspace rathere than handsize (i have huge freeky hands loolool)

edit; hey i found my KB : http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_3055.html

* i paid £5 from staples!

I use the Razer Lycosa (http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-keyboards/razer-lycosa-keyboard/), low key profile, and far smaller form factor than the stuff from Logitech. Fully backlit with a touch panel for media keys. You can have a look at mine at the LAN on the 29th if you're curious.

Edit: I took that giant wrist rest off.

I have the ZBoard (now SteelSeries) MERC, and i have to say that its awesome for gaming, but i find it pretty gash for typing compared to my previous £3.99 ebuyer value effort.

The gaming section has nice big WSADQE keys that fit nicely onto how your hand sits, and the angle of that to the rest of the keyboard means you dont have your wrist at an angle, which reduces discomfort. Has usual media keys and the entire keyset is programmable using the software, can even programme key sequences. Buttons that are close together and could be confused have distinguishing features such as concave/ convex tops.

Basically if you do lots of typing on ur pc id say to look elsewhere or perhaps at the add-on gaming sections (used to be called FANG when it was ZBoard, not sure now)

True. I guess the 18Hz to 28kHz (http://www.steelseries.com/int/products/audio/siberia-full-headphone/specifications) is either estimated and/or marketing fluff. I was just thinking that maybe allowing the speakers to cap out slightly lower would allow for a better signal at ~20Hz. Regardless, some of us have been using earplugs so our hearing ain't totally screwed yet. :p

I can still hear over 20kHz, and I can't remember how low. I kinda need that for when I produce music. :)
