Well if he really does have a chest infection, they aren't contagious, so have no fear. That said a lot of people say chest infection when they mean chesty cough/heavy discharge, which could be symptomatic of a million things you could catch. IMO if people attend public gatherings when they're contagious everyone should just throw things at them until they go home.
