Hey guys... I need help!!!... My motherboard died on. So I bought a replacement today. The motherboard is a MSI DK8790GX.. and currently I think it's a load of shit. It's unable to read all my SATA HDDs, and it's unable to detect my USB 3.0 card or my 4870X2, but aside from the HDD's, I'm wondering if my GFX card and USB3.0 card has a problem rather than the motherboard. I have another Graphics card that works with on the motherboard,. So atleast I know the PCI-E slots are working. But my main card, my 4870X2 powercolour, has 5 red lights on, and the fan is running at maximum.. I was wondering if any of you guys had the same card or if your rig could power this card up so that you could let me test it on your comps?

Any solution to my plight would be most appreciated :P

I'd hate to get rid of this card.. it has served me well..

Possibly look at the bios version and for any updates on the MSI site that say they fix the kind of issues your having? have you got anyone that can test your 4870?

from what I can gather, the four lights mean that the card could be dead.. or the PSU might have a problem. I dunno anyone with a high enough PSU that can run my GFX card... so the card might be dead from what I read online, but at the same time it might be the PSU from what I read from a forum post. It might be my PSU, then again I even tested another GFX card on the motherboard and that worked fine, so it's either my GFX card is dead or my PSU is dead. Oh on another note, the card has been working fine for a year and a bit now.. but it just .. died...if it is dead.

Mods, move to the hardware section?

Anyway, back to the issue. You say your MOBO died, how did it die? If there was a powersurge that popped your mobo there could be damage to other components. If you decided to "tweak" your mobo with a hammer and it stopped working it is likely you'd know if the same tweak damaged other components.

Did you mean this mobo?

I can't find a DK8790GX.

The min rating PSU for that card appears to be a massive 650W, only Sally has a PSU worthy of the task in Pause to my knowledge. Considering the massive power requirements I'm going to go out on a limb and say that your PSU went pop, took out your MOBO but your MOBO saved most of your components. Considering the unwieldy nature of your beast rig you might be better taking it to a computer repair shop and forking out £30 to get them to tell you what is busted. Replacing your PSU/GPU will cost a good deal more than the £30 so it would seem the best course of action.

He's got a Thermaltake PSU 1000w ..... IT was massive when i seen it.

Am sure he will come back with more info after his exam.

Nothing you've said suggests to me that the PSU is working correctly and it should also be tested. With the power draw of your setup it could easily be failing on one of the 4 12v rails and that in itself would stop the GPU from working but allow the rest of the computer to function normally but as you say you've had issues with other components too my guess is your PSU is iffy because it is unlikely that your MOBO would have any issues being the top flight AMD chipset.

I've tested the ports as well and sent it as well as testing it on another card. I've concluded that the card is at fault here, as I used the adapter power ports to test the card. The card still fails while testing it on another motherboard. The motherboard dosen't detect and just carries on booting up. There is usually a beep sound if the card was connected, but the power connectors where not plugged in. This dosen't hapen, as I mentioned already, the computer boots up without noticed the card at all. So I got a RMA from novatech to send it back to them for a replacement of some sort.. I hope..Oh I forgot to mention I also used a PSU tester, It registred the ports from the PSU to be working fine. I also used a multimeter to be absolutely sure. The ports are releasing power fine. So it's most likely to be my GFX card

ok, but that isn't a test at load so your PSU might still have an issue. Sounds like you've sorted your GPU though so good luck with the RMA.

Woa, that's quite the blow out! Unlucky man. Glad you've managed to get a new rig up and running quickly though. :)
