Actually the sticks on console pads work really well for flight sims.

Bluepixie
24th June 2009, 00:28
I'm sure they do. A pity you're also missing the controls for:

Engine Management
Flap Control
View Points
Various Weapon Control (particularly bombers)
etc etc etc

I guess it will be a good arcadey sim. *shrug*

GingerPrinz
24th June 2009, 09:00
Engine Management - Press X to bring up your engine control panel and tinker away
Flap Control - L2 Modified A and B presses
View Points - R2 Modified A. B, X, Y, or do like racing games do and make it Y, or use the Dpad
Various weapon control - Cycle through a list with Dpad, or bind weapons to Dpad keys
etc etc etc

You really don't have to be that creative with consoles to have lots of controls.

To0
24th June 2009, 12:30
engine management is fluid, you can't stop the actiont to change the prop pitch it just doesn't work like that. It would be similar if GT5 had a "Which gear would you like mini game". This is not IL2. IL3 will come later off the funding from this all console affair. I think that for consoles this should be the GT5/PGR side of things but rest assured a PC sim variant of this game is not on the cards but a new IL is!

GingerPrinz
24th June 2009, 13:05
I didn't mean press X and then the gameplay stops, I more meant press and hold X to bring up a menu of options that you modify in real time. I'm trying to think of a comparable example but I've just had a pub lunch :S

Emmm, yeah I was? I guess I need to check out a flight sim, because in my mind it is obviously something very different to this title you're talking about, but that said I think if you could play what was in my mind, you'd be like "nice, good flight game Dave". I'm obviously just not communicating it very well

Things we know about IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey

• It is called IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey
• It will be on 360, PSP, DS and PS3
• It will feature a "flexible difficulty level system: choose setting from arcade to realistic simulation to cater for all flying skills."
• It will have over 40 planes and 5 different historical battlefield areas.
• It has a website (http://www.il2game.com/)
• End of list.

It is quite amazing how some of you have extrapolated so much insight from so little data. Could you share you technique with me as I could then finish my PhD with only a couple of experiments.

That is all.

Lewis, Oleg has a site, a blog and numerous friends, these are all valid ways to get information. The only part that is speculation from my post is that this is to fund the development of IL3 but seeing as Oleg himself has said that he will be working on a new engine once this is finished it is a pretty safe bet that the only way he'll secure a publisher will be on the back of the success of this title. There was a developer diary at one stage but it was over a year ago now and I've no idea where it is, nor can I point you to the interview that detailed his planned "new sim" for the PC. It might have been on gamasutra.

Due to being some 90% plastic, and unable to be cremated, Micheal Jackson willed that he be melted down into legos so that the younger generation could play with him for a change.

When Farah got to heaven God said 'Since you have been such a good person I will grant you one wish before you join my choir of angels.' I was reading the article on Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/5303609/in-defense-of-the-classic-controller) about controllers in the age of Natal/Wii, when it described the worst game ever conceived:

Her latest project, Train, is aimed at provoking players to think about the Holocaust. Players lead grim, gray boxcars full of little yellow pawns. The draw cards along the way that release some of the figurines or slow the train ride.

Only when the first train reaches the "goal" do players learn that their final destination has been the Auschwitz concentration camp. When Brathwaite unveiled it at this year's Triangle Game Conference, audiences were awed, and some were even moved to tears.

The train's tracks are laid out on glass panes that intentionally recall Krystallnacht, and the game's rules are written on an SS typewriter — the interactions between player and objects are part of what inspire Brathwaite as a designer, and part of what makes Train so impactful to players, she says. Brathwaite meticulously and thoughtfully considered each and every object in Train, and how each could support the game experience.
"We often talk as game developers about creating situations where the player has to make truly meaningful choices," she says. "I wondered: What would happen if I put that much attention into each component of the games themselves?"

only when the first train reaches the "goal" do players learn that their final destination has been the Auschwitz concentration camp.

She's certainly done a good job of spoiling the "twist" of her own game. Also, sounds like there's low replay value. That the solution was called 'final' was a bit of a clue, I suppose.

Yeah saw this awhile ago. Peter Jackson actually is the producer though. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1136608/) Interestingly, the director Neill Blomkamp (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0088955/) did the Halo short film series Landfall (http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Halo:_Landfall). :) It's been hinted that the success of this might get the Halo film going again, but that's just a rumour.

Turns out the film is based on Blomkamps short film Alive in Joberg (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNReejO7Zu8)

Never the less, looks very interesting.

Eternal Moonwalk. (http://www.eternalmoonwalk.com/)

Video site, therefore nsfw? Not sure.

People from around the world have submitted clips of them moonwalking from right to left across the screen, and they're all put together with looped music and a distance counter.

All clips are numbered, and if you put the numbers into the search box at the bottom left of the page it queues that clip for you, so a clip or two later it will turn up.

I've seen numbers over 10,000 already, so there are plenty of clips.

So far I've watched over 400 metres of moonwalks. It's kind of addictive.

It's a man holding a sign, which appears to be informing people of a protest / complaint site related to gas prices.

The site is, in fact, lemonparty.org, which is a group of naked old men.

Sense Motive is a Dungeons and Dragons skill, which you use to sense the motive behind an action, DC 15 refers to the difficulty of successfully determining his motive.

Success in this case would probably give you some information relating to the fact that he is deceiving you with the sign.

Thus, the joke is that a random person not familiar with shock sites might remember (or take note of) the URL to check it later, unless they passed the sense motive check and realised something was fishy.

THAT WAS THE JOKE, AND NOW IT'S RUINED BECAUSE I HAD TO EXPLAIN IT FOR YOU.

I HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY, HEX, YOU KILLED IT.

#4 Yes, this stuff is expensive. If we ask you to put on the wrist strap, to take a step back from the HDTV, to wash your greasy Cheeto-caked mitts or to grab "the guest controller," we have every right. Don't act offended and don't look at us like we're anal retentive freaks.

YES! Damn straight! :D

#20 Hold the eff on. Whatever you want from us, we can't do anything until we save. No, really. No, nothing. You want to lose the last 45 minutes of your life, too? Then deal with it.

I don't think non-gamers will ever get that one. *sigh*

Brokencyde - Freaxxx (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TH5ibABP4U&feature=fvw).

Yeah apparently it's now acceptable for white guys to rap badly, overuse autotune, and refer to their style as "crunkcore". I never saw emo and rnb as a viable crossover but apparently I was wrong.

Reviewers had this to say:

The New Musical Express (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NME) stated in a review of I'm Not a Fan, But the Kids Like It! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I%27m_Not_a_Fan,_But_the_Kids_Like_It%21), that "even if I caught Prince Harry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_Harry_of_Wales) and Gary Glitter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Glitter) adorned in Nazi regalia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_German_uniform) defecating (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defecation) through my grandmother’s letterbox I would still consider making them listen to this album too severe a punishment."[16] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brokencyde#cite_note-15)

This is why you can't have nice things, you are now only allowed to drive shitty cars with a top speed under 70mph, they're not allowed to look nice, perform well or be comfortable, so basically you're restricted to your own fucking shithole cars.

Seriously, just get fucked, if you can afford this nice of a car, you can afford a fucking hands free kit so that this shit doesn't happen, you bulbous, inbred, moronic, drooling, glue sniffing, paint drinking, fuckwits.
