View Full Version : Microplay Gaming on Tuesday Nights?

Who's up for organising a mass invasion of Microplay Gaming (we could get the managers to reserve some seats for us) so we can all partake in the IGUK BF2 FFA one Tuesday night?

I've been going along some Tuesdays and taking part with anyone else in Microplay who's playing, but there's such a complete lack of teamwork that we generally suck, I'm convinced that we would be able to pwn if we organised it well and all made it. =)

Relevant links:

Microplay Gaming (http://www.microplaygaming.com/)

IGUK Homepage (http://www.iguk.org)

The basic rules:

Set map, no FF, no unlocks, fairly standard BF2 match rules.

If we're playing from the same centre and there's few enough of us (less than 10 I think) we WILL be assigned to the same server and team, which means we could squad up and lay down pwnage.

The cost:

Travelling cost = £5 (maximum for most of us I think)
Microplay Cost = £10 (gives you 4 hours + 1 free on creation of account for those of you who haven't played there before, plenty of time for BF2 and some spare to allow for some practice beforehand.

TOTAL = £20 (allowing £5 for drinks / snacks in Microplay, they're cheap but still, better to overestimate).

Hell, we MIGHT even be able to talk Andrew into giving us a group discount or something. =P

Also there's a raffle style draw organised by IGUK based on points, winner of the draw gets £50.

So, who would be up for it?

PLEASE post any ideas etc you have relating to this AND vote in the poll.

yah i went along tonight, but 5 mins too late to sign up for the free for all. =/

how does it work teams wise? surely if its 'more points, more chance at $$' its just all about the frag whoring and no actual teamwork??? what seems to be the case?

Sounds cool only problem being that I work on Tuesday nights. I can get it changed but I need to know in advance. When were you thinking of doing this? How many for the team do we need? It is 16 player maps?

I was thinking of doing it anytime everyone was free for it actually, basically get an idea of how many people could make it lets say..two weeks from now (the 21st) and then sort it from there, if not enough of us can then we could go on the 28th, or any Tuesday at all that suits the majority of us.

As for the maps, it's usually about 12 to 14 people to a team, medium size maps, not tiny, not the full sized 64 person though, usually the medium number of flags...if you see what I mean?

Well not really, because we're not just playing for the money, given that there's a LOT of people playing on different servers the chances of winning are minimal, but remember you can get a LOT of points through teamwork in BF2.

Also, it feels damned good to take on other proper teams and win. =)

Now that the obvious bump is over my real message:

It looks like this won't be happening, since almost no-one seems interested.

Well I was there tonight and we did alright, we were outnumbered (as much as 16 to 12 for a while) but we were actually doing better, we were just getting utterly zerged and eventually lost. =(

I got 3rd in the USMC, Best Combat, Best Engineer, 3rd overall...well, you'll see in the screenshots. =D

It's the IGUK FFA matches, you're given a server and which team you've to join, the problem was that people who were MEANT to be on our team didn't turn up. >=(

So we were struggling against mighty odds, but as you can see from the scores (their commander score and best squad are especially telling of this), we were FAR more skilled.

I think you'll find this a prime example of 'kills = good' mentality.

Fyndir, you lost.

You had a much higher team score and yet you lost.

Why is this? Because you were better at killing than them? No.
You actually killed more of them, well done. However you and your team failed to hold the objectives and play as a team and subsequently lost. In no instance of BF2 should you attribute high personal score with gain. Getting gold stars is a bonus. The only thing you should be fighting for is the CPs, that's the only way to win the game.

On a happier note, well done, good score. Noobtubing were you?

EDIT- on second read, it appears that you alone were trying to defend (best CP defence score) however if you look at the overall teamwork scores they are far lower than most decent matches online.

Retraction: It appears that Fyndir was actually playing the game properly just his team was not. This post should not reflect on Fyndirs personal game play but the points made are still valid, hence why it is still posted.

Kills ARE good, because they help defend flags, but I know what you mean. =P

A fair amount of us were trying our best at defence, 32 person FuShe Pass was the map btw, and we did ok at keeping a few points, but with the added difficulty of being outnumbered anytime we tried to spread we got flanked horribly.

I fought as hard as I could for CPs, but when you're playing as engineer you need a fair bit of support (if you look I got best engineer), and that requires a lot of orginisation and talking, which once again didn't happen much due to a lot of people going for personal score, but just like with CS and most team-games I play I consider the team more important than myself, I will happily have a horrible score if it's helping my team to win.

As for noobtubing, there's no unlocks available in the IGUK FFA's, so I was playing with the bog standard USMC Engineer pump action.

I didn't get anywhere near as many teamwork scores as I would have liked due to people being stupid, driving off while I'm trying to repair them and other nonsense, or driving over my mines which I planted to help with flag defence.

Thank you for the retraction, although I would have thought that you knew me better than to think that in the first place, clearly we must play more BF2 together. =D

If you're going to be at Multiplay on Tuesday, I might drop by, depending on how next week goes.

Would they have done as well without my scans, spotteds, UAVs, supplies and artillery?

I severely doubt it tbh, they all commented at the end that I was being a 1337 commander with dropping that stuff.

Even if we did all forget that FF is OFF during the IGUK stuff, so the artillery was a bit gimped until about five minutes before the end. -_-

*Microplay. =P

But yeah, I should be there, hopefully you can join us, just be there before 6:30pm for the signup, match starts at about 7.

You'll also need an IGUK account, but anyone who's in (Andrew, Ray, Graeme) can help you set that up if you need it.

Other than that just have about £10 for time (4 hours for £10) or you could use their Student Card deal, which is £2 an hour and would be cheaper to get a few hours on, also you'll get +1 hour for creating an account. =D

So yeah, hope to see you there, and follow orders Soldier. ;)

The soundcard is a good one, from what I hear from CustomPC magazine. It will boost BF2 frame rates by 5-10, I think. Oh, and sounds better too!

Actually I may not be able to fit it on my current motherboard due to space issues, although that may have been resolved with the new case, I'll have to see.

If I do have an issue with that I may offer it up as a prize for a Gunsoc tournament..

Just bring the card along, (see if you can find the updated drivers on the web too, according to Strings, they are much better)

Unfortunately I started dismantling my machine about 10 minutes after that post, so I hadn't thought of drivers.

Fortunately my ancient speakers work with the sound card and sound pretty sweet. ^^

Oh, and Yega, the only marking on them I can see is "harmon/kardon"
