OK, just so I know, can everyone post thier computers name and the workgroup they are on. There are still several machines that appear to be configured correctly and yet cannot see the network when at the LAN. If you help me out I'll be able to test and get a solution hopefully.
(If you don't know how to get this info, find your 'My computer' icon in the start menu or on the desktop and right click. This will bring up a menu. Select 'Properties' from the menu. This shows you your system information. There should be 7 'tabs' Clcik the tab named 'Computer Name'. Underneath the textbox for Computer description it should give you the Full computer name and the workgroup.)
Cheers

This is really bizarre. WinXP was supposed to eliminate this, make networking much easier and simpler!
In my experience, it's always been:
1) file sharing incorrectly set up / turned off
2) Antivirus / firewall set too high / incorrectly configured for lan
There are a few cases of minor stupidity in there as well :D
Does the network run more smoothly if everyone is on the same workgroup?

No the network does not run more smoothly, I have a record of all the machines that my two machines saw at the LAN and I want to know which ones I couldn't see. Exuuss machine was setup just fine last LAN but couldn't see the other machines. I want to see if I can replecate the disparity of names at a mini lan and check how it affect connectivity.

DANCE in WORKGROUP.
Workgroup name hasn't been troublesome since Win98 (or even Win95?), so it shouldn't make any difference what name you are using.

I know that, but it is a MicroSoft product so god knows why it does anything.
K, sorry sideshow.

Miho on MSHOME
For some reason my computer can never be seen by anyone at LANS, firewalls turned off, everything checked, it just cannot be seen?
Why?
