I noticed this (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/tech/news/hardware/PC-hard-drive-prices-rise-sharply/articleshow/10529244.cms), having looked at a tasty 2TB NAS and wondering why the hell they had all jumped. Might be worth holding off for a while....

Floods in Thailand I think?

Edit: It says why in the first sentence of that article :\. I'm confused, were you asking why or did I misunderstand?

I think he's saying "I was wondering why HDD prices were so high, then found this article that explains it, and thought others might want to know as well."

Can he get off the money, so I can get at it? :(

Feeling poor right now. Everyone else is playing Skyrim, but on the bright side Im actually enjoying Oblivion Complete that I got for a fiver :)

Brian: I realised if I stopped spending money on Steam deals because "OMG so cheap, I'd be an idiot NOT to buy that", and actually saved money instead of buying games I've actually never touched. Then I would actually have money for Arkham City when it finally comes out (not that I have a computer that can play it though).

I can get a 2 tb internal hard drive in a shop in edinburgh for £115 - is this worth it - I mean do people think it will be months and months before prices fall again (or will they never go down to what they were before? What was a 2tb before - about 70 pounds?)

I don't think they're going to go down any time soon. Depending on the model, that could be a good price. Make sure it's 7200 RPM and not a cheap, slow one, etc.

Western Digital think it will be a year or so till prices are back.

Man i'm glad I grabbed my 1TB drive when I did; cost me about £40; now £150 - that's insane

I grabbed a 2tb about a month before they went up.

On the bright side, I just found 2 spare hard drives that need a home.

40gb and a 4.3gb :)

they have this:

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/2tb-samsung-hd204ui-spinpoint-f4eg-sata-3gb-s-5400rpm-32mb-cache-89ms-ncq

and this:

Prob not worth it....(not 7200 if thats what I need? and also not significantly cheaper than online[think there are cheaper places for the 2nd one than scan online])

Personally I'd get the samsung. At 2tb it is a storage drive not a performance drive. If you find that getting in the game is taking 3sec longer for you than anyone else you could always invest in an SSD.

fair enough, I might just get it to avoid having to mess around breaking up the dell I have at the moment. Theres actually a fair few of the samsung models on ebay for around £95/100
