This is why Valve suck. Here is fourth e-mail I have sent them in regard to my HL2 troubles.

Dear Andre,
I have my AA and AF setting set on 'Application Preference' in my display panel. This makes no changes to the problem. Forcing AA or AF or even turning it them off does not change the situation either. I ran the safemode link but I get the same error, this time even before I could get to the main menu. If I start HL2 with the console prompt I can get into the main menu as it's not loading the "map" in the background. All the changes I have tried for in game settings, have not changed the situation including various console commands sugested in the forums. I ran the validation link which gave me no feedback after checking, I presume that this means the files are fine? I restarted the machine and tried to run HL2 again, with no success. I shall include the current set of .mdmp files that are in my HL2 directory. Please advise.

Sincerley,

Niall Macdonald

ok? Would show you the rest, but I don't want to bore you.

This was the reply I got.

Niall:

Try popping the case open and cleaning out the inside with canned air. You also might want look into getting a heat monitor like MotherBoard Monitor in order to be sure you're not overclocking your machine.

Also, some users have reported moving their RAM to different slots and then updating their chipset drivers seemed to fix the problem.

WTF!?!?!?!?!

I'm going to go over there and kill that SOB!!!!

Ah! Thank you very much for that! I'm having a bit of a hard time over there, everyone is rather unfriendly, apart from the odd one or two. At least they're not suggesting "defrag" or "clean machine".......
