I bought it, I figured I didn't have much of a life to get eaten.
Anyone else play?

Played Guild Wars for way too long (more than 2k hours over 5 years). If you're in it for PvE, you should only play with people you know, avoid pugs and most importantly: don't stick with it once you've completed the campaign! It's ultimately very unfulfilling and grind-heavy, and none of the big rewards (e.g selling stuff on ebay etc) are really very easy to obtain any more).
The PvP in Guild Wars is the best/most varied of any rpg-esque game I've ever played (including WoW arena!). The metagame is fluid and constantly changing, meaning you need to constantly adapt, and it has a very good balance of individual and team-based skill. If this is the direction you plan to go in, I would recommend playing Heroes Ascent first, then moving on to GvG later once you understand skill mechanics.
The main problem with Guild Wars, unfortunately is that it requires no subscription fee, which has two negative effects, despite seeming initially awesome.
Firstly: the developer has no incentive whatsoever to perform any maintenance on the game (skill balances are far too rare, and are often completely ineffective)
Secondly: the playerbase (especially in the pve community) is completely awful and subhuman, as they only play because they aren't old enough to get a credit card.
Sorry for the rant, and I realise it was kinda off-topic. Oh well.
