BF2: Life of a Medic - Healing buddys and shagging dead bodies!
Right, il be honest here and admit that if you've read a medic tips guide then most of this will be familiar, however, there a few a things ive picked up that ive not read before, and a couple of truths that people dont admit.
KIT: Medics two special abilities are the medibag and shock paddles, the paddles being the more predominant of the two. Make sure you have them both hotkeyed, preferably to the mouse somewhere. The shock paddles can kill, THIS IS NOT A NOVELTY, because they are hotkeyed you can whip them out faster than a knife, and cause more humiliation in my opinion.
REVIVING: When reviving, you are trying to get to your buddies as fast as possible, while taking as little amount of damage as possible. a handy tool is a car! treat this as an ambulance in which if people are in it, you are healing them, if you park beside someone, you will heal them, but most useful is its speed to get to the wounded. A sprint bar is a limited resource, a car doesnt have one. additionally, you can drive to wounded under fire but use the car as cover, and make a speedy get away. Car's are not essential to a medic, but never turn one down if you can help it. See, medic's are meant to hang back, so using the car's turret can come in handy too.
If a guy in front of you dies, you can revive him, but if your the one that goes first, you wont neccesarily be revived. hopefully, the guy behind you is a medic or a SMART person who will switch kits with you, revive you, and fulfill your role for a while. If everyone took such consideration, think how hard it would be for your squad, no, whole TEAM to die?
You can revive from 3 ft away or so, meaning that you can revive someone while remaining behind a wall/in cover. Always go prone, its too risky standing/crouching while reviving, and obviously being prone makes you less noticable/shootable while doing it.
Now, as i said earlier, the sprint bar is limited. Now, as most classes, when moving from order to order you will sprint till you run out of bar, and then tap the sprint key every few seconds. This is the fastest way on foot to get from A to B. However for a medic, this method will cause problems. See, when running to somewhere, a buddy could die at any time, in ANY direction. so if youve used all your sprint running north, your probably not going to be able to get back to the guy to the south of you. So its best to jog every where, using your sprint only when heading towards the wounded. Obviously you can gauge it yourself, here and there, but i wouldnt recommend digging into anymore than half your bar.
Using the zoom key, (preset as the 'N' key) you can zoom the map in and out, to see where the hot spots are (i.e. the ones covered in shock symbols). This is where you should be. If orders say otherwise, ignore them, and swap squads to the squad that is dying the most. They need you. When joining a game as medic, i always join the biggest squad, as this means the most deaths, meaning i will be most useful.
Dont underestimate the value of patching someones health up, its not all about ALIVE or DEAD, the injured need your caring touch too. Especially as half the time you run over to a injured guy he dies before you get there anway. its like, foreseeing his death! and being there to revive him freakishly fast!
When reviving someone out of cover, under bullet fire, run with you medi bag out so your healing your self instantly from any damage you take. As you approach the revive-e throw a bag at his body so that as you revive him, you will be healed (assuming you are getting shot).
Dont worry when you die just as much as you kill. Hell i die a little but more than i kill. Its just something you must accept when taking the medic class under your wing, that you will have to recklessly throw yourself into area's in which the enemy is killing your people.
NADES: As if medics are good enough, they get nades like everyone else. These are handfuls or extreme damage that you can throw at the enemy without putting yourself in danger. Sound good eh? Seeing as a good medic i hanging back, throw nades in the right places can be really effective.
HEALING: Throw medibags at all chokepoints, places where the action is hot, but obviously on your team's side of the fighting. See, enemys can use your medibags, but they dont see the health avatar on the bag. So it would be advantagous to put medibags in cover/hard to see places, because your team will see the health sign regardless, but there will be less chance of the enemy seeing it and benefiting.
When engaging with a sniper, you will most likely be shot, and go down to those last two bars (Fortunately they all seem to be shit and never hit the head). So its a good idea to throw 1 or 2 bags down to where you will be going prone, so that when hurt, you will be insta-healed! Also, if you ever find youself in a safe sitution, always reload and fully heal yourself. Your next dual may depend on how fighting fit you were at the begining of the fight. Which is why medics are so AWESOME! so long as your a good shot, you should win most prone battles, but most likey come away with some wounds. Now, for assault, that means finding a medic, or dying very quickly if you get into another fight. Not so for medics! so long as you survive, you can get your health back to top banana condition.
When playing as a medic, you will find that you will carelessly jump over gaps knowing that you can heal any damage you take. I dont encourage this, because its an awful shock when you switch to Spec Opcs, break your legs jumping off a gap, and realise you cant reheal yourself.
GUN: The medic gun is accurate, fairly powerful, and an overall GOOD gun. The unlock however, is preferable. Im not sure if it is more accurate, it certainly does a little more damage, but i feel that overall, it is a better choice. So long as you have it set to single shot, pretty much AT ALL TIMES!
even if the fight it 10 ft away, i still recommend single shot, because the in auto mode, they spray on the thing is ridiculous. And eats the clip too. The scope on it also makes the gun good for spotting enemys. The unlock from Special Forces is completely nuts, its like an uber version of the standard medic gun, ya kno, like more accurate, powerful, less recoil, just totally sexy.
