Hi guys, a friend of mine (girl, hence Dell) at work needs to replace her PSU. The system is a Dimension 5100 and I've heard that Dell PSU's are rather tricky to replace. Any good ideas for cheap replacement?

Here is the spec: http://reviews.cnet.com/Dell_Dimension_5100/4507-3118_7-31429803.html?tag=sub

In the past, Dells used to use a non-standard power supply and motherboard, so changing one meant changing both. However this all got changed fairly recently. That looks like the same line as gor's machine, who did a PSU change himself - so I think any ATX power supply should be fine.

What power of PSU is it that she's looking for, by the way?

Based on that..

This might just be about right. (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-001-TG)

Assuming Tiberio sells me his stuff - She could have my old Enermax 330W for £20ono.

If you like you can have my dubious [emphasis on the dubious :D] PSU from this case (http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/93105) for free as it's sitting on my shelf doing bugger all.

I'll give it a bash Uuurrahh, very much appreciated. PM me your details and I'll arrange an uplift.

Dang, totally forgot to mention to you to bring it to the lan, or indeed to speak to you during the lan to negotiate a time to grab it, but then I thought I would actually be there Sunday. I shall be giving you a call later this week.
